Fergus Force Jr. A Hockey Club

The Fergus Force Jr. A Hockey Club is a new entry in the Greater Metro Jr. A Hockey League, and will begin play for the 2017-2018 season.

Playing out of the Centre Wellington Community Sportsplex, a beautiful two-pad facility in Fergus, the Force will take up residence and begin to establish a top-flight Jr. A club dedicated to developing young athletes and student-athletes, both on and off the ice.

Our primary goal is to provide our players the greatest opportunity to improve as a player and an individual, and earn themselves opportunities at the collegiate or professional level.

This organization will dedicate itself to providing the very best hockey staff – coaches, trainers, equipment, statistician, medical and nutritional expertise, etc., and the very best administration – game night manager, community relations, academic adviser, etc.!

This organization is also dedicated to being a solid corporate citizen of the Township of Centre Wellington and the Town of Fergus, in terms of education, community events, fundraising and charitable works!

The GMHL is an independent Jr. A league established in 2006 with seven teams, and currently has 22 teams in its eleventh season (including one team in Quebec).  Players may range in age from 15 – 21 (though 15 year olds are often times goaltenders).  The Championship Trophy is the Russell Cup, named after league founder Bob Russell.

The GMHL has always adhered to an open-border policy, and places NO restrictions on import players.  The league typically consists of a player pool that is 50% Canadian and 50% of international origin.  This provides a real interesting mix of playing styles and skill sets, with players from all over the world.  It’s a unique brand of game in the landscape of junior hockey in Ontario.

The league consists of a 42 game regular season schedule, with most of our 21 home games taking place Sunday afternoons!  The season begins in early to mid-September and concludes no later than the 1st week in April.

Marshall Uretsky has been around the world playing, coaching and teaching the game for over 35 years, including Coach at the IIHF World Championships, GM/Ass’t Coach in the OJHL, Coach in the GTHL AAA level, Director of In-Residence Youth Camps, Skating and Skills instructor, Adult League Hockey Director, even working as a Hockey Technical Consultant on numerous television commercials with the likes of Jerome Iginla and Sydney Crosby!

He was also part of the original GMHL Executive Committee, Director of Communication, GMHL Rulebook and Officials Coordinator, and website administrator.  At the same time, he operated one of the original seven GMHL teams, the Toronto Canada Moose Jr. A Hockey Club, out of Thornhill, a Toronto suburb, until 2012.
